Chuck is part of the cast on the next season of Dancing with the Stars. That should be something to see. I always watch the show with my family anyway but this makes it more interesting.
I would think someone like Tito would do this, not Chuck but I guess he thought about it back when his then girlfriend Willa Ford was on it. Now that he's not an active fighter he has the time and it won't interfere with an upcoming fight. Should be interesting to see how he does. Good mainstream exposure for the UFC and for fighters being smart and athletic and not just some fighting animal as some might think.
One of my colleagues mentioned this to me today. I have to watch my fav MMA fighter of all time do his thing... It is definitely cool that mainstream America will get to see a total bad a$$ as a humble, respectful dude.
Well, I watch it every season and it is very much a popularity contest until it gets down to Final Four and then the voting gets more on who's better.
So, with that said - Chuck should go a long way as long as the guys vote. Btw, the guys do vote and vote big as football players have done really well on this show.
I'm not a Chuck fan but I must give a ton of respect for going so far out of his comfort zone. He did pretty good last night, considering his background. The forced smiles were hilarious but he's trying really hard. He also did a really good job showing that MMA fighters are not cavemen. Martial Artist Mark Dacascos also did a good job representing martial artists everywhere.
Last place was between actor Ashely Hamilton and ex-NFLer Michael Irvin - both with 19 points. Top points was about 30 points for the night.
from an article on the show:
Mixed martial artist Chuck Liddell impressed the judges - and the audience - with his dance moves. He made his way through the fox trot, keeping a (sometimes forced) smile on his face.
"I'm known for not getting nervous, but I haven't had that much adrenaline running through me for something in a long, long time. I don't have that much adrenaline before I go fight," he said.
He acknowledged that ballroom dancing is "something I'm not real comfortable doing," but said he wanted to prove that "just 'cause we're fighters, we're not Neanderthals."
"I have a college degree. I have a family. I'm a normal person and we do normal things," he said, adding, "hopefully we can get more fans for our sport."
Liddell finished with 22 points.
"Iron Chef America" host Marc Dacascos earned 29 points.
Saw the clips on you tube. i can totally relate to how he feels. i am much more in my element hitting a heavy bag than trying to tango...lol hopefully he stirs some curiosity and gets more people to tune into the sport. his appearance can only help mma.
Totally agree. Dana needs to understand that Rampage appearing in a big movie is good for MMA as well. Especially if he lets Rampage get some fame, leaves him alone and when he comes back to fight (which he will since he's a fighter after all) it would be BIG for UFC but noooo, Dana has to be Dana and go all petty and stupid on Rampage. Its things like this that is going to make fighters think more about Strikeforce and other orgs that can offer them money and its also going to make the UFC have to begin paying out more money to keep its fighters. After all, if this is how he treats and talks about one of his star fighters, then what about the lower tier guys? Not all of them are in it for money alone, to a lot of them its about respect and pride and Dana's rants are totally against that. I understand that Rampage had a sort of responsibility to do the fight after TUF is finished but obviously, Dana in his arrogance assumed that and never put it in a contract so can't blame Rampage for doing what's best for him and not Dana. Dana really needs to shut up publicly about his fighters and other fighters as well. How much did he talk about Kimbo Slice when he was not in the UFC, yet here he is kissing butt and splattering him front and center in TUF ads?

That's part of it. They do all the ballroom dances to modern music for the most part. It depends what they can clear and get permission for. All the pros get a CD of the song(s) for the week and then have to make the proper choreography for that week's dance category. Then they have 1 day to make and learn the dance and 4 days to teach their "star". Its pretty intense for all involved. Pretty cool actually.
And yes, I watch UFC and DWTS! I watch Disney too - have kids!
Chuck did good last night. Got a 19, which is up from the 18 he got last week. Still has a ways to go but they like his fire and spirit to be doing so out of his comfort zone. He should be safe again this week.
