There’s no salary cap for coaches. Although David Stern has warned owners to be more frugal in signing coaches, that warning may fall on deaf ears in New Jersey. Word from Mitch Lawrence that Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson are on the Nets’ short list is likely to be followed by similar rumors as Mikhail Prokhorov gets closer to approval as Nets owner. Lawrence says Prokhorov wants to make “a big splash”.

• The Nets have worked up a short list of coaching candidates and Jeff Van Gundy has made it, which comes as no surprise. Team president Rod Thorn has long admired the ex-Knick coach, who likes his TV gig very much. There's speculation that Mark Jackson, Van Gundy's TV partner who was convinced he was going to get the Knicks job until it went to Mike D'Antoni, is also on the list. As long as Devin Harris is a Net, Avery Johnson isn't making any list - short, long or in-between.

JVG? Sounds good. Jackson? I like him but he has no experience.

I would take Jeff Van Gundy in a heart beat. He's one of the best coaches out there and you know if he takes it he's bringing in Mark Jackson as an assisstant to work with the guards and you know he'll bring in Patrick Ewing to work with the big men.Hey i hate the Knicks with a passion but i would be happy as hell if they bring Van Gundy in.

I also think someone like Van Gundy only comes in if we get Wall and some really good Free Agents.

Thorn likes him he's a defensive minded coach a la Frank.
JVG doesn't like rookies though and this team is built around young players.
Bringing Marc Jackson and Patrick Ewing as assistants would be the move.

Who's better in 3 years Brook or Dwight?
Brook has the better post game, Dwight has the rebounding.

Brook Lopez didn’t make the All-Star team reserves, but Dime’s Gerald Narciso says this affront will be the last for a long time. Narciso writes that he believes Lopez has “more big man skills” than Dwight Howard and “will be better than him” in a few years. He adds Lopez is the “most fundamentally sound big man to enter the NBA since Tim Duncan” and “the leading candidate for the league’s next best big man”.

I think JVG would be alright with our young talent pool.

Howard is one of the most productive big men in NBA history already. He's very flashy and is capable of taking over a game. Lopez is already a great center and I think he still has room to grow. I think Lopez will be a better traditional Center but Howard will be one of the best ever imo. Brook could certainly be the 2nd best in the NBA if he continues to work hard.

He can take over on defense. As far as moves Brook puts him in the Dream Shake.
