The article says Jeff Wilpon is in favor of keeping him. Why not just give him a shot to start? I know Met fans are fed up with him but what are we going to get for him? I still think Heilman has great stuff and has the stuff to be a good starter. I'd sign either Lowe or Ollie and make Heilman the 5th starter. If he should fail trade him and make Niese the 5th starter. What if Heilman can be a solid starter? At least lets try it before we trade him for little. |

Why not? I'd send out feelers to see what I could get for the guy but as it stands now we'll be selling low. Might as well give the guy a shot at starting. After all, he's been shafted by this organization over the years and if you're going to get low value back in a trade anyways.... at least it would be an improvement over Lima Time, Jeremy Gonzalez and whatever other "papis" Omar might bring in to audition.

If Aaron can forget the screwing around past and regain some confidence his situation may bloom into the best trade never made!

Jeez, hes like a 4 year old in a toy store.

He WAS good and in HIS comfort zone knowing he would get the chance to pitch multiple innings from the start of a game. Heilman was a horse at Notre Dame and was the reason why he was drafted. They screwed with his arm angle(The reason Bob Ojeda left)and wasted years of development In 2005, after demonstrating domination for 9 innings(ONE HITTER/11K'S 0 BB'S) and 7 innings of 2 hit ball,he was buried in the Pen since, just when he was beginning to blossom. I am a firm believer if you could do it once, you can do it again! The Mets owe it to themselves as well as Aaron to reset the record. That said,if he can be moved, after the way he was treated,it may be best for both parties. |

I don't think Heilman would be any good as a starter. Every time that I saw him have to pitch multiple innings this year he struggled near the end because his arm looked fatigued due to the years of just pitching one or two innings. If they let him have the last spot in the rotation I won't be upset but they better have a good back up plan in place.

IMO,Heilman needs a fesh start...His attitude can't be worth a *hi* after the way he has been
pulled apart....and I can't blame him.....If all you can see in your future is gloom and doom....guess what the ensuing results will be?? Wonder why the mets have taken such a hard stance on this guy after all these years? Cut the guy some slack and try to trade him.....he gave it his best under conditions that were less than steller...so why don't we show some class here... |

Operative word being, "start". This franchise hosed him over in favor of players with far less pedigree. See IF he can bring back something good in value and if not complete the purge of last year's poison pen and give the "kid" a shot at starting. |

I don't know about that. I'm not saying he went out there trying to fail but there were more than a couple times that he just really didn't seem to care. I really do think Heilman has talent and ability. Because of that I don't think he could of produced the results he has if he "gave his best all the time" |

The kid never peed and moaned about a damn thing. He, on rare occasion expressed his wish to start. He answered question upon question in interviews without ducking the press OR throwing other Met organization members under the bus. He's also been a professional about everything, quite different from what the player you use as your username did. Never seen Aaron challenge the manager. I say give this kid a break, the Mets should either trade him, or give him a shot at starting but don't besmirch his character by inferring that he's been like a four year old. He's been a good soldier. I wish we had more of his character if not his sucess rate. |

Used to be that we felt he just needed a fair shake at starting. Then, many others, including Lima time were started in favor of him, which had to mess with his head.
Over time, I think it has messed with his head, and I just don't think he's effective anymore around here. They played with his arm slot angle, and for awhile, it looked pretty good. But the last two years prove it's been anything but. He needs a change of scenery. His fastball simply isn't good enough to offset his changeup, and they just sit on the changeup, waiting for it. He needs tutelage, and he's going to get it somewhere, just not here. We may rue the day he leaves, but at this juncture, it's the right move. Trade him, get something back for him. |
