Boras is seeking a 5yr/$80M, that's $16M per for Lowe who's 35yr's old. They are comparing it to Pettittes contract he signed with the Yanks last yr @ $16M... The question I ask you guys is, do you think Lowe is worth 5yr/$80 ?remember,he's 35yrs old now,,,, I'll have to pass

No way. I have a feeling the Mets are going to wind up re-signing Oliver. They have no other choice.

That's what Boras is seeking. You never start out low (no pun intended) and then go high. Boras is doing just like he did with Beltran with his 10 year $200 million asking price. Lowe will most likely fall pretty short of that figure unless a team is really desperate to make a splash. I think a 3 year deal worth somewhere between $40 and $50 million with a 4th year team option will get it done for someone even if it's not the Mets.

If that is what he is asking for Lowe, what will it cost for Perez?

Exactly, and Boras is his agent also, plus with the market so low on lefties, his price got higher...

If it's a difference of around $10 million more for Lowe than Perez, I would sign Lowe. He would make our rotation more reliable and stable plus give it great post season experience. I know he's older but he certainly didn't look it last year.

i would go 4yrs @ 60 million. He is a very good pitcher. he is better than perez, a.j. bernett and sheets who is always hurt. we have to overpay a bit on this one.

loduca, the thing is we need a solid number 2 or 3. if we pass on lowe, who do we get? burnett is inconsistent, sheets is always hurt and perez is inconsistent. at least with lowe you know he is a gamer who pitches his teams into the playoffs. if we have to pay a little more to get him, i think we should.

After watching what Burnett has done to the Yankees and Red Sox at times he is tempting.

I do like Lowe a lot, but thats a big, big contract. Eh, I guess its not my money, go for it Big Grin

burnett is tempting i agree. i would take a shot with him if i knew he was 100% healthy. i think he is injury prone. we have wasted enough money over the past few years on big contracts to players who are always injured ( pedro, wagner, alou, castillo). at least with lowe the odds are pretty good he will stay healthy.

These price tags are insane - especially for Lowe. He's a good pitcher but not one who leaves batters shaking in their boots worthy of the money and years he seeks...especially at his age. Anything more than 3 guaranteed years is a mistake, IMHO. I want Burnett. I just don't think Lowe materially changes the view of our rotation looking in as opposing team - but Burnett does.

Should we take short term chance on Brad Penny?

I really feel if we're not going to sign top their pitcher, might as well give the spot to Heilman, massively rebuild the pen, sign Hudson, and get another right-handed outfield bat or someone who hits lefties well.
