8. Milledge
12. Pelfrey
37. Fernando
87. Carlos Gomez
132. Phil Humber
173. Carp
248. Bowman
290. Flores
292. Guerra
294. Niese

I dont get the star ratings they're showing. They have Andy Laroche in the top 10 with 4 stars and Fernando with 5 stars at 37. Is this based upon potential?

I don't know what the stars mean but it's nice to see F Martinez already ranked #37 and he hasn't even played a full season in the minors

Dont they (media) say the Yankees have a weak system because of trading everyone for veterans? How do they have 12 prospects in the top 300 then? Not that I care but maybe they're not as bad off as the media has stated.

maybe the Mets arent as bad off either as they like to say.

I think the star thing is there because say a guy is older he will probably be ranked higher because he has shown it and is almost MLB ready but the stars show pure talent probably.

The top 300 prospects is a lot. Some of those prospects 150-300 are probably not that good. The only Yankee prospects that are any good are Hughes and that kid Tabata. Eric Duncan has kind of fallen off the map but he has had a better year this year. There farm can't be as bad as everyone says. The same goes for us.

Stars mean overall potential. Fernando is lower than alot of 4 star guys because he doesnt have much of a track record. But his great potential pushes him over more established prospects. Humber only has 3 stars, that means that right now he is a forgotten man in the prospect world.

Well, two guys with us that have low rankings in this is Niese and Guerra. And BA ranked them as our 3rd and 5th best prospects. And supposdley they have great potential. So that is where I'm getting confused

Yup. Maybe our prospects aren't that good. 2 of our top 5 prospects aren't ranked that high. I'm guessing it's because they are so young. Guerra is 17 and Niese is 19.

At least we know we have 3 of baseballs best prospects and if Humber can return to form after TJ surgery he will be right up there.

Yeah, it is probably because they are young. Plus, they are pitchers so it is always hard to project them long term.

As for Humber, I think he will be better then Pelfrey. He has more pitches, and he can throw them for strikes.

And for Fernando, he is just special. Nothing more to say

Humber definitely sounds like he has the better secondary pitches. I hear he has a great curve to go along with a good fastball in the low to mid 90's. I'm not sure what his velocity is after the TJ surgery but some pitchers come off that throwing harder. Hopefully that is the case.

Pelfreys fastball is very good but he really needs to work on that curveball. Once in a while he gets it over for strikes but more times then not, he doesn't.
