The Giants have signed free-agent LHP Jeremy Affeldt to a two-year deal, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

I think thats the first free agent signing of the off-season. Theres one potential middle reliever gone.

I thought Affeldt would be a good signing for us. I know not everyone likes him as much as I do but he's a hard throwing lefty and would be a solid arm added to our poor BP. I wonder how much he got per year?

Yes when I heard the news I was somewhat disappointed... he had a solid year and anyone new would be an upgrade from last year.... we'll see what Omar has up his sleeves

He must of wanted to be a Giant or be on the west coast because that's not a great deal and the Giants are terrible. I would think he would have held out for a better deal if he didn't have his heart set on something.

Affeldt is pretty good and would certainly be a big upgrade over some of the bozos in our pen. My guess is that either Omar or Wilpon do not want to spend $8M on a middle reliever. I think the big money will go to K-Rod, and the rest of the pen will be populated by some of last year's crew, some scrap heap pickups, and maybe a trade.

Did I miss something? Question Correct me if I'm wrong, but was there even one post PRIOR to this signing suggesting we pick up Affeldt? Seriously, maybe I missed it, but I don't recall seeing any.

Are we going to repeat this thread every time someone signs elsewhere? Whistle

This is what Omar said about Affeldt...take this for what it's worth.

He said Mets already have two lefties.

My interpretation - Either he intends to keep Feliciano and Schewnweiss, is posturing, or isn't being truthful why Affeldt didn't appear to get much or any Mets atteniton. I too wanted him here and am disappointed yet surprised he signed so soon.

You can never have too many lefties. Plus this would have been an upgrade over the two we have.

Had him on my radar for a couple years. Disappointed that Omar made that comment in light of the fact that both our lefties left a lot to be desired when the money was on the table.

I would have liked Affeldt as well as Pena. Oh well Pena has the right pedigree (er, last name) maybe Omar will ink him yet.
