Gil Hodges , Peewee Reese , Mookie Wilson , Boog Powell , Goose Gossage , Catfish Hunter , Willie Mays , Darryl Strawberry , Yogi Berra , Ty Cobb , Satchel Paige , Sandy Koufax , Vida Blue , Don Drysdale , and Mickey Mantle are a few other names that no sports fan would connect with football or any other sport than baseball .

Former early 1980s Minn. Twins catcher Doug "Eyechart" Gwodz. Groucho Confused Roll Eyes

Come to think of it, the Mets' "Bobsy Twins," a/k/a Jeff Wilpon and Omar Minaya, just may put a call into the forty-something "Eyechart," as they continue to try and find someone (anyone!) to fill the team's Grand Canyon-like chasm at the catcher's positon. Jester Jester Missing Question

Out here is Central Pa the American Hockey League is the main menu for professional winter sports due to our powerful Hershey Bears(the Washinton Capitals affiliate). During last seasons playoff run to a Calder Cup championship, the Bears played the Providence Bruins who had a player on their roster named 'Wacey Rabbit'. I kid you not! Our play by play guy couldn't stop belly laughing every time he had to state his name when on a shift. Big Laugh The laughter was contagious. Since the Bears caused he and his teammates to play like a group of 'Elmer Fudd's',they disposed of Wacey's Big Laugh Big Laugh Big Laugh team in four straight!

This thread has been introduced in the past and its one of my favorites. Anyways, I defy ANYONE out there to come up with a team with more unusual names than that of the 1915 Philadelphia Phillies. Consider the following:

Gavvy Cravath, Beals Becker, Possum Whitted, Dode Paskert, Ben Tincup, Eppa Rixey, Erskine Meyer, AND I kid you not, Bud Weiser.

As Case would say, "You could look it up."

How would you like to go through life being called Heine Manush?

I'll see your Heine and raise you one Noodles Hahn of the '03 Reds.

Somehow that betting analogy sounds a little off. NO, I'm not one of those. Red Face Smiler

I would be remiss if I didn't toss out my favorite sports name even if it is a football player:

Fair Hooker of the Cleveland Browns.

I can remember the first time I saw the name Mel Kaufman(God rest his soul) in the Washington Redskins lineup,I thought of a fellow who might have been a member of my Synogogue congregation. As it turned out he was an Afro American Southern Baptist. By the way how the heck did devout Catholic Whoopi Goldberg get her name? Before I knew much about her,I thought she might have been a relation to Molly( Re:The old TV series"The Goldbergs")! How can I forget former Hartford Whaler,Ray Neufeld. After thinking I might see him in Schul or offering me a bagel with a schmeir,I noticed he was another fine Afro American. Interesting stuff!
