Luck, I hope you're right but my concern with Wright's "yips" intially stem from his fielding or more to the point his throwing. It seems as though when David has time to think about a situation he tends to choke up a little. Third base might be the best thing for him since it is such a reactionary position where one can get by on instincts but once you put the thought process into the equation Wright seems to cough it up a bit. Unfortunately, his throwing yips repicated themselves into the batter's box. I am with you in that I hope the kid gets it (W)right. |

RR, I might buy your theory in full if Wright, for his career, wasn't good hitter in the clutch. But I think you bring up something to ponder - how Wright deals with onfield pressure, or when he has too much time to think. Oddly, his throwing improved while his clutch hitting went south. That said, Wright is streaky hitter. The key perhaps, is to develop a David Wright who is more consistent. Hey, I'll take hot streaks all day, but it's the prolonged slumps and lack of plate discipline and breakdown of his hitting technique, as well as too long swing and getting pull happy when hitting poorly, that needs rectification. He, HOJO, Manuel, and his teammates with experience (Delgado and Beltran) need to recognize signs of Wright's slumps before they get too deep - the more who pay attention and recognize the signs - that includes David - the quicker rectification can occur. To me, when Wright changes what he does with his lead and plant leg, he's in trouble and is telltale sign. Like Lucky, I think Wright still has lots of upside, especially in the mental side of the game - and that he'll only be 26 next season bodes very well for a career of clutch hitting and one of the best third baseman of his era...perhaps only behind AROD. If Wright stays heatlhy and keeps doing what he's doing for the next 10 years...let alone improving...you can pencil him in as lock for Hall of Fame and perhaps one of the best all around third baseman, ever. |

wasn't in love w/ the pedroia pick, IMO was just the trendy pick this year. ESPN loved him which always helps big time.
didn't even run that much. .376 OBP is OK but not that great or anything. didn't crack 100 RBI or 20 homers or anything. i know, i know, "oh he did it in the clutch" yeah whatever, so did youkilis and he put up bigger numbers nice player but didn't deserve it in my opinion |

Led the majors in hits, 2nd in the A.L. in BA, first in A.L. - runs. Also gold glove. These three combined, along with blue collar play, probably did it for him. |

What surprised me the most was that no one in the AL had what would be considered a MVP season IMO.
