i talked with Buster Olney of espn.com last night, and he is absolutly convinced that if the mets offer up either, not both, but either Lastings Milledge or Aaron Heilman, along with a good package of minor leaguers, like a Carlos Gomez, they can have zito

If we don't have to give up Lastings, then you don't do it. I would give up Gomez considering his value is as high as it has ever been. He is still very, very raw. And he isn't hitting for power.

Well the way Heilman is stinking as of late they would want Lastings Milledge and I don't blame them. Have you seen their offense??? It stinks =O Jay Payton is the team leader in batting average with .280 ... nuff said. =p

If this is true I would do that deal without hesitating. Milledge is the guy I am reluctant to give up for anyone but Willis.

They might want Heilman to replace Zito for this season. They know Heilman wants to start. Offer Heilman and Gomez and throw in a few others.

Yup. I would say a package of Heilman/Gomez/Lindstrom/ and another minor leaguer would get it done if this is true

I don't believe it. Sounds too good to be true.

C'mon, this is Billy Beane we're talking about here. There's almost no chance there's any truth to this rumor.

Considering that we are talking three month rental with no guarantee Zito would sign long-term with the Mets, that is a reasonable price, maybe too much in return to Oakland.

I do it.

Look what he did with Hudson and Mulder. He got back much less then a Heilman and Gomez type package and they are better than Zito.
