Mets Board Pres |
from rotoworld:
Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that Carlos Beltran (knee) is furious with the Mets. Sherman writes that Beltran wonders if he should have played at all last season and therefore doesn't expect him to prioritize the team this time around. How he knows exactly what is going on in Beltran's head is anybody's guess, but the Mets will have to get by with Angel Pagan and Gary Matthews Jr. in center field for at least a little while. Didn't read the article but by the sounds of what the person who wrote this, it sounds like Sherman's speculating to have article fodder to write about. I guess if there's not a scandal to write about, its ok to create one? |

Although Sherman is a known trouble maker,it would be reasonable to expect Carlos to be mad as hell at the circus surrounding him. Looking ahead,DH,should his understandably troubled mindset become a problem and FMart suddenly begin to display his billing,it wouldn't be beyond the realgm of possibility to shop Carlos and make room for Fernando. He can patrol CF adequately. I know Tol would disagree because of his lower body structure. After watching players such as the squatty Willie Mays,The late Kirby Puckett, short legged Jimmy Piersall and 5'6" Albie Pearson perform superbly out there virtually their entire careers,I don't think there is a problem. |

I agree with DH this article is bull. There are easy refutable points - downright contradictions of fact. For instance, it was Beltran who pushed his own return last season against medical advice. And it's Beltran who loves to be on the field and will do everything possible to return as soon as he can, not take his sweet time. Sherman should be ashamed of himself. As far as trading Beltran, I don't see it happening. He has full no trade and wants to finish his career as Met. I also don't think F-Mart is heir to CF. It's not just me who sees him as cormer outfielder - reams of scouts do and have been saying this for the past two years. He's simply not fast or quick enough to be a good CF fit especially in a ballpark as big as Citi. When F-Mart first signed his body was very different than it is now. Mets and we fans will get first look at CF David Neuwenheiss at spring training. It's possible he develops into potential future in-house option. |

There are alot of possibilites and unanswered questions in play here,Tol. One of them may very well result in FMart eventually becoming the heir apparent to Beltran. I haven't seen FMart enough to determine whether or not his new body makeup has detracted from any speed. Geez! I haven't seen enough of him to even develop a baseline from before to after. I do know he played CF when joining the Organization and was deemed a five tool talent. We shall soon see once and for all if he can make his undistinuished minor league tour and lousy short stint with the Mets a distant memory. At least his first name isn't Alex,as in Ochoa or Escobar. He is already ahead of the Game! |

Fair enough! Time will tell. I think he did his stock a world of good in winter ball. Now he needs a full a healthy season under his belt and some maturity. I think he'll get fair opportunity in spring training but I think he'd have to overwhelm to make the team. I think it highly doubtful he makes the team out of spring training as bench player, hence, unless he earns a starting job, he'll open the season in AAA. |

Come on Tol! Come back to us, please! Fact: Joel Sherman has bonafide contacts within the majors Fact: YOU do not "There are easy refutable points - downright contradictions of fact. For instance, it was Beltran who pushed his own return last season against medical advice." And who told YOU that? Did YOU talk to Carlos? If not, than you are offering hearsay. It MAY be true, but you can't state it as fact. "...wants to finish his career as Met." Really? Did he tell YOU that or did you read it somewhere? Would Carlos nix a deal that would send him to the Yankees? My point is this: You took a cheap shot at a guy who has contacts that WE don't. The other information you used in your post was nothing more than a regurgitation of what some other writers wrote. Who's to say which writers are more credible. Joel Sherman's been around a long time... |

Although I perceive Sherman to be a trouble maker and abit biased toward the Bronx,we have no way of knowing how Carlos actually feels toward the Mets and whether or not he still desires to finish his career with them. It wouldn't be unreasonable, however, to assume he could very well be disgusted with the treatment or lack thereof he has received. Should he feel that way,any trust and comfort playing for them can easily evaporate,as would his no trade clause. |
