This is about politics - Religion and politics in this country is huge and the religious right adeptly hide behind it as vehicle of hate. Maher pushes back with his beliefs the same way the religious right pushes their's and Maher gives them taste of their own verocity. The difference is, the religious right has been on long crusade to legislate their own brand of morality and codify into law means to restrict the personal freedoms of others. |

Please specify what "personal freedoms" the right-wingers have taken away from you? Do you want to have an abortion? Do you want to tie the knot with your girlfriend? Do you want the right to own a handgun? (Oops sorry, that's a right that the left-wingers want to take from us). Well, what exactly is the burr in your proverbial saddle and please be specific. |

RR they will not have an answer for that because the more they throw their garbage that Bush took away their rights the less they can tell which ones were taken away.
With Obama in office our 1st and 2nd amendment rights will be trampled on. Freedom of speech is on the way out with a biased media and political correctness. You will not be able to criticize the messiah with out being called a racist. Just wait until the Freedom act takes effect. Then they won't be able to say what they want on the radio. All Obama all the time. |

Religion and politics are emeshed in this country and the world over and is used as vehicle of hate and gov't control by vocal right wing elements who make the most noise and do religion injustice. Maher pushes back against religious zealots in this country because their lack of Separation between Church and State is chilling. This isn't a Democrat or Republican issues - zealotry is had by both. I don't care for over-the-top remarks whether coming from the left or right...both, in my view are wrong. Religion is misused by the right wing in this country to forment discrimination and legislate control and eradicate some people's individual rights and personal freedoms. These Churches Tax exempt status need to be rescinded. The Mormon Church in Utah pumped millions into California to end gay marriage by fostering despicable lies. Instead of actively supporting and fighting for discrimination and inequality codified in law, they could have used that money to feed the homeless, send a kid to college, buy someone healthcare, retrain a displaced worker, plant trees, etc. They burn this money to feed hate rather than using it to enrich the lives of others and our environment. Maher is pushing back and I say thank goodness. What he says pales in comparison to haters such as Limbaugh, Savage, Cunningham, Levin, Coulter, etc, including intolerant religious groups. |

It's not about politics Tolerance it's about Mahr having a personal issue with anybody of faith. It's a personal issue he struggles to deal with so he tries to destroy anybody who disagrees with him. There have been many times i've seen Mahr take a shot at a religious group without politics being discussed at all. I said before that I don't have a problem with him taking shots at politicians because that's what he does, but I have a huge problem with his bashing of religion. That's one of the few topcis if not the only topic i'm extremely sensitive about. |

I agree with you about over-the-top comments and I do not condone them. He has every right to lash back at religion given how right wing groups have interjected themsleves in our local and national politics. That's the price they pay for their hate-mongering and support of devisive practices. I do not have problem with him lashing out against religious zealots and their bigotry, and pushing back against them. You don't like that he calls out religion - and I understand your viewpoint - but I don't like religious and social value fanatics codifying discrimination into law. His beef is with the extreme and their reach, and I appreciate that humor and the serious message it expresses in comedic turns. Right wing talk is oozing with the-over-the-top and Maher is an ever counterbalance of shock value that's typical from the other side. |

Tolerance you keep saying he's doing this to push back at the people on the right wing who inject religion with politics but the Democrats have a ton of people he's insulting as well. There's no reason why he can't just bash the people who do the things your talking about and leave the rest of us alone. I don't care what he says about Rush Limbaugh or Anne Coulter.
He makes general statements about religion that are just down right disgusting because he disagrees with them. |

Religion is the reason for 90% of the wars. Yet still these moronic politicians use it a means to justify there hatred. Doesn't "God" want everyone to "love thy brothers"? or "those who have never sinned, cast the 1st stone"? Total hypocrisy. |

Here's Just A Few Examples: Bill Cunningham, October 30, 2008, talk radio in Cincinnati: "Jews for McCain because Obama wants to gas the Jews, like the PLO wants to gas the Jews, like the Na_zis gassed the Jews. Bob Newman, May 19, 2008 Son, you are not some sort of macho tough guy, trust me. What are you gonna do, Obama, come to Denver and try, key word try, to whip my white as_s? Son, you are not some sort of macho tough guy, trust me. You are just another blowhard, make-believe thug who wants to be the most powerful man on Earth. Chris Baker, Radio, Minneapolis, October 3, 2008 "The difference between Obama's mama and Bristol Palin is that Obama's mama was trash. I mean, she was dirt. She was a bag of trash sitting on the sidewalk waiting there in Honolulu on one of those streets for the garbage truck to come by and pick her up and take her to the dump." Michael Savage, October 29, 2008 "There's a ballot initiative on ho_mosexual marriage that is more important than you could imagine. It's called Proposition 8, and you must vote 'yes' if you're sane. If you're insane, hate the family, hate man and woman, hate your mother and father, hate the Bible, hate the church, and hate the synagogue, of course you're in favor of 'no' on Proposition 8." |

How can I explain this...what if on Novemeber 4th of this year, there was a ballot initiative - for a Constitutional Amendment stripping your right to vote in federal elections, and voters in your state would vote to determine whether you could retain your right to vote or not? What if that Amendment also contained a popular vote, that if passed by a simple majority, would strip away the right of heterosexuals to divorce? What if that same state passed a Constitutional Amendment forcing Blacks back into slavery, or barred white people over 40 from marriage? Or forced childless couples to divorce after five years of marriage? So What Are Some The Legal Discriminations Against Gays? A Few Examples: Six states bar gays from adopting. 30 states allow employers to fire gays because of their sexuality. Federal Hate Crime Protection include every race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, disability...but exludes gays. Housing discrimination - gay people can be kicked out of rentals at will for being gay. Federal Employment discrimination protection statutes excludes gays. Thirty states have Constitutional Amendmenys barring gay couples from marriage rights, civil unions, domestic partnerships. Don't Ask Don't Tell expunges gays in the armed forces with dishonorable discharges. Thousands upon thousands have been expelled. Members of our armed forces who serve in Iraq, Afghanistan are expelled. A few years ago, Dayton Tennessee passed a law - later repealed to ban gays from their town. Lawmakers across the country constantly push for local bans like no gay teachers, no books with gay characters and content in local libaries, etc. Marriage isn't just a symbolic committment, it automatically confurs over a thousand state and federal legal rights and protections that heterosexual couples never think twice about, rights also honored from state to state anywhere in the country. It spans the gamit from Family Medical Leave, propety rights, inheritance rights, spousal health insurance, rights to make medical decsions for an incapacitated loved in emergency, estate planning, Federal death benefits, living wills, joint custody, family health insurance, insurance discounts for multiple users, tax filings, higher tax burdens, capital gains, rental leases, hospital visitation, joint property rights, loss of spousal health insurance portability and other insurance portabilities if move to a state that does allow domestic partnership rights, next of kin notification, no legal exemption from being supeonaed to testify against spuse in court law. And hundreds upon hundreds more. Civil unions, gay marriage and domestic partnerships do not confer any federal marriage rights and protections. The 1996 Defense of Marriage Act bans that. |

Blaa, blaa, blaa, blaa, blaa. Yes, I knew all along this was all about you and your gay rights. Whatever. I find it very interesting though, that Barack Obama (ya know, the guy that you voted for) is on record as saying that he doesn't support gay marriages. Not very liberal of him, is it. He must be one of them closed-minded right-wing religious zealots that you so fondly speak of. Yet you voted for him anyway. Fascinating. |

Chuck Norris is actually a very intelligent man. I saw him a few different times and he actually know what he talking about most of the time unlike almost every other celebrity on either side. |
