Has "Steve From Bayside" assumed the late, great "Vinnie From Queens'" mantle as WFAN's MOST prolific New York Yankee caller on the sports talk radio station? I mean, you can't almost turn on the 'FAN without hearing Steve trading Yankee insights and opinions with either Mike Francesa, Richard Neer or Steve Somers on a 24/7 basis.

I wonder if the irrepressible Mike Lupica were still on WFAN as a mid-morning host, would the opinionated and, often, acid-tongued NY Daily News columnist also wonder if "Steve From Bayside" had any other purpose in life but to call-up WFAN repeatedly, as Lupica once stated to the late, lamented "Vinnie From Queens"? Question

It looks to me that you have even less of a life than he does .
At least he gets involved calling the station for that 24/7.
from reading your post Apperently all YOU do is listen.

BRAINS5720,

Yes, since the automobile accident, it has been tough for me in getting around the city and in performing ordinary manual functions. As you observe, "Apperently (sic) all YOU do is listen." Heck, that's about all I can do at this point in time.

You know, it is extremely fortunate that the "slighty" ubiquitous "Steve from Bayside" lives in the (718) area code. I mean, how else could the successor to the great "Vinnie from Queens" afford all of those calls to the 'FAN if he had to pay long-distance charges from, say, Connecticut or New Jersey? Oy vey! Even the frugally-minded Fred Wilpon would think twice about incurring those charges just to schmooze with Mike Francesa (or should I say Pope Mike Francesa I) or the unfailingly dispassionate Richard Neer ( a/k/a "Sir Sominex" as the N.Y. Daily News' resident wag, Bob Raissmann, has tabbed him), don't you agree?

And, isn't it about time that WFAN followed the leads of both WOR and WABC and provided their callers with a toll-free (800) number?

I get the impression that you are an avid listener (and, possibly, an equally avid caller) to WFAN. Don't you get a kick out of those yahoos, who after being initially asked what's up by the WFAN host, respond with the absolutely "brilliant" riposte of, "Nothing much"? (A veritable Harvard Law School graduate with summa c-u-m laude honors, no doubt!) And, immediately after that, they compound it with an entreaty to the host to "Listen." With a set of headphones on, just how is the poor, and, undoubtedly, long-suffering talk show host going to do anything else but NOT listen to what this obvious savant has to say, ad nauseam? Beam me up, "Doris from Rego Park"!!!

Take care and thanks for your thoughtful and solicitous remarks.

Cobra Joe

What's there to forgive among friends on both the MSG Met and Yankee Forums?

Certainly, your explanation, "I was just trying to be funny...maent (sic) no harm ." says it all.

Heck, I'm particulary glad and even honored that you would deign to to take the time from your challenging but, no doubt, rewarding personal life to respond to my posting on the transfer of prominence from the late, lamented "Vinnie from Queens" to the "slightly" voluble "Steve from Bayside."

Incidentally, I noticed that you had a total of twenty-one comments (but, who's counting?) on the Met and Yankee sites here on September 10. Heck, that impressive number of comments in one day is near Koosman36-like in "prolificacy"! (By the way, is there such a word as "prolificacy"?) I venture to say that even our former "frequent" fellow poster would humbly and respectfully do this in response to your remarkably fecund total of one-day-only comments:

Bow Worship

I look forward to reading many more of your trenchant, gracious and unfailingly humorous comments on both the MSG Met and Yankee Forums. However, in the future, perhaps you'll possibly find the time in your hectic and demanding schedule to enlighten and, I daresay, ennoble us all with some of your own first-edition, original postings? I certainly hope so.

I'm pretty sure they have "insider" numbers for the more entertaining callers. How else could the same people get on air every day?
I'm on the road most of the day. Years ago (before Sirius) I used to try calling all the time, and never even got through to the call screener, yet the same people (Jerome from Bklyn, Doris from Queens) would get on multiple times daily.
And Jerome was a total idiot-so much so I'm still not sure it wasn't a "work".

To the FANdroids, I ask again, what happened to Jerome? I believe Doris died.

I once heard that the late "Eli from Westchester" used to have a direct line to the Mike and the Mad Dog Show. Eli was the one caller whom even the holier-than-thou Mike Francesa would routinely kowtow to. Worship

However, Eli apparently incurred Francesa's wrath over something he said, and was summarily banned from their show, never to be heard from again. Nono Duct Tape

As to the irrepressible "Jerome from Manhattan," I have heard him call Jody McDonald on the ESPN-1050 AM station on Saturday mornings.

And, yes, Jerome is as irascible and cantankeous as ever! Argue Blow Up

Eli went on a very bad rant, and wasn't just banned from Fatso and Fruit Loops, but all of FAN.

Thanks for the info on Jerome. Haven't listened to much "regular" radio since getting Sirius.

To be honest I believe the only reason any caller should ever get banned would be if He/She were to try to become threatening or try to reveal any personal information ( adresses, phone #'s ).

Jerome had a mini stroke and on doctors orders was told to limit his calls and rants about the Yankees...He calls in to Steve Sommers every now and then,as Steve tries not to agitate him.

I really don't understand how anyone can care enough what a talk show host thinks about sports to take time out of his or her life to respond to what has been said on the radio! What Mike Francessa or Chris Russo "think" is going to happen in a baseball, football, or basketball season is no more worthy than what the drunk guy who runs his mouth at the end of any bar has to say!
