This was a pick that could not be lost by signing any Type A or B free agent (obviously, since it would have otherwise have gone to the Brewers for signing Sabathia). He's a tall, lanky and projectable 6' 4'' whose raw tools remind scouts of Jeff Francoeur and Dale Murphy. He has first-round tools but a lack of polish and questions about him off the field pushed him down to the Yankees' pick. He's also the first position player the Yankees have selected with their first pick since the very forgettable C.J. Henry miscue, taken in a draft where they could have had Jacoby Ellsbury instead.
