Rumor is the Tigers could dangle Magglio Ordonez this winter, looking to up-grade their pitching staff. What do you guys think of the possibility? It would be a cheaper option than Tex or Manny and I don't imagine Hughes would be a necessary part of the package (Mags is good but I don't think he's that elite of a player).
I know the priority is on getting younger (and at 34, Ordonez isn't) but Mags would be like a one or two year stop-gap until Austin Jackson is ready. His contract includes a guaranteed year at $18 million this coming season, a $15 million option for 2010 with a $3 million buyout and a $15 million option for 2011 with no buyout. That makes him right around what Abreu might get. He's put up some nice numbers playing in a serious pitcher's ballpark so he might have enough power to handle Yankee Stadium. |
