Well Yankee Fans despite all the second guesser and Monday Night Quarter backs in the Media, In the Newspapers, on The Radio and TV, and yes even on this board. Joe Girardi proved he is one heck of a Mgr. in the dugout, in the locker room, and in between the white lines. Something Torre never was good at, and that was in between the white lines. I liked the signing of Girardi the very first day they signed him. This guy was a major part of the Yankees winning number 27.
He built a great bull pen strategy, he used these guys to the best of their abilities, and he never over used the bull pen. He gave them all the confidence they needed to succeed during the season and during the playoffs. He stuck to his guns with the Starting Rotation and Pen throughout the playoffs and took the heat from the media and fans. But he refused to change his game plan. He had the respect of all his players; he used his bench players perfectly. And yes, sometimes things didn't go according to his plan, but that's baseball and that's what happens to a Mgr. No one can be right 100% of the time. But he never panicked, and did what he wanted to do. This was his team, and this was his game. There was no doubt who was calling the shots on the field and it was Joe Girardi the Yankee Skipper.
I take may hat off to Joe, and he did one heck of a great job. And he is one heck of a Mgr. Yankees made the right decision hiring the right Joe to Manage this team. And all Yankee fans should give this man the respect he deserves. Great Job Joe, Way to Go!!!! Yankee Fans need to give him a Standing "O" next season on opening day. http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/s...ardi_joe080522ap.jpg

First of all Brian, who's cares about Joe Torre, I never liked him as a Mgr when he was here. He was never a good Mgr between the white lines. But this Thread is about Joe Girardi, not the other guy
this is such gushing and exaggerated praise for girardi that i'm wondering if it's sarcastic or legit. i agree: girardi was a good choice (sorry mattingly) and he did a great job. but isn't this a bit over the top?
the "he never panicked" part and the "he stuck to his bullpen strategy" part seemed particularly amusing. this guy ran through pitchers in the playoffs like they were sunflower seeds. and it was entirely because he panicked--he didn't trust his relievers enough to let them throw to another batter once someone got on base. so he turned rivera into scott proctor and rode him to the point where rivera even admits he may not have been able to pitch in a game 7 of the WS! girardi is lucky marte got hot and he's lucky rivera was able to post so many innings (and that the Series ended) before he got hurt. the way joba was yanked around all year is a disgrace on all people involved (girardi included). now you could say that all this is water under the bridge because, after all, they won. but in some ways (some, not all) they won in spite of girardi.
good job by girardi? yes, absolutely. great job with no panick? not quite. i think he's a terrific manager and will be one of the better ones in the league soon enough. but he's not there yet.
