MIAMI -- Sergio Mitre, who underwent Tommy John ligament replacement surgery on July 15, is reuniting with Joe Girardi.
When Girardi managed the Marlins in 2006, Mitre was part of the pitching staff. On Monday, Mitre reached agreement on a a split contract with the Yankees, managed by Girardi.
The Major League portion of the deal is for $1.25 million, and there is a team option for 2010.
Due to the severe surgery on his right elbow, Mitre may not be ready to pitch until midseason, according to his agent, Matt Sosnick. Normal recovery time from Tommy John surgery is 12-18 months.
He's in the same boat as the Phillies' J.C. Romero. Went to a GNC for a supplement, only to find out it's illegal.
Couple thoughts: A) This is not the way to align yourself with a new team. But B) If they bought this stuff at a GNC, how bad could it be? I mean, it's not like you can walk into a GNC and say, "Hey, I'd like to buy some steroids, please."
