What a big difference in this team from last year. This year the team has developed a personality and character. They play with emotions instead of going through the motions. This is something that has been missing for quite some time now. Of course winning is a big part of this, but you need a personality and character to be a winning team. The additions of CC, AJ, Tex and Swisher have helped bring that to the Yankees, along with the Yankees great Capt. Jeter who has always had personality and character, but now this is through out this team including the Mgr and coaching staff. And you can not say enough for the young guys on this team, every time they are called up to do a job.
The Mgr deserves a lot of credit. Joe had a tough time last year but he bounced back and proved he is a great Mgr. He turned this bull pen around and worked them through out the year to become one of the best bull pens in MLB. He rose above all the doubts of the NY Media and some fans. He didn't get a free ride in NYC like Joe Torre did. Torre was a media darling and never got any bad press. Even after he blew a 3 game lead to the Red Sox he never got any bad press. Anyone else would have been ran out of NY by the media the next day. The Media was getting rid of Girardi the first week of this season, saying if he doesn't go all the way he is out of here. Girardi has earned the respect of the players and should get the respect of the fans. He uses the bench players fantastic, he has rested the veterans and starters all year to get them ready for the big show in October. He has made everyone on this teams roster feel like part of the team and the guys in the dugout are truly a very close team. He knows when to use the speed he has on the bench at the right times in the game. Something that we needed for a long, long time, Speed on the bases to create runs in the late innings. Put this all together Yankee Fans and it spells Number Twenty Seven. LET'S GO YANKEES. |

To be honest I beleive that right now the Yankees are so far superior in every way to every other team that NOT winning number 27
is implauseable. |

I agree TonyG. This team has a certain swager about them. I just hope the rest doesn't cause them to start flat. The short series is dangerous. One thing though, I couldn't agree more with you in regards to Joe G., he has done a great job here. But with respect to Joe T., he really didn't get a free pass when he arrived. He did however, take over a already established team. The media was still supporting Buck when Joe took over and in a lot of ways he (Buck) deserved a lot of credit for the success of this team!

i want to believe that you guys are right--that this yankee team is different from the last handful. but i'm not convinced. the rays tanked, the sox have had an inconsistent season, and so the yankees didn't have to do much but play up to their ability in order to win the AL east. the late-inning heroics are encouraging and the swagger is certainly noticeable, but the real test is the playoffs. and guys like sabathia and texiera (and, of course, a-rod) don't have great playoff histories. and AJ has never been there and is generally prone to lapses in mental concentration at really inopportune times. that means big questions marks surround the 1 and 2 (or 3) starter and the 3-4 guys in the line up. add to that the fall off in starting pitching after the 3 slot, and i think we have to hold off on planning the parade. i hope i'm wrong!
i do agree about girardi. |

i see what your saying but i find it a little hard to think their success is related to a couple of teams haveing off years. i think the rays played over their heads last year and the red sox biggest reason to their past success is more of a result of the yanks under performing. i also think the sox were and still are a good team, it pains me to say that but they did acheive their success on their ability more so then another teams inability. the yanks have the best record in baseball and their wins were up considerably over the next best team in either league, and they gave it to the sox in the second half but got whooped in the early part of the year so its not like a season split is a blow out. its far from over and they still got many games to win before it can be considered a success but i like the way the team has brought in players that trully helped and made a difference as well as joe g seemed to rejuvenate the team by being younger and hungrier then joe t. i love joe t and i will never forget what he done, but i think the change was best for him as well, he has been in baseball for so long and when he got to the yanks and had the biggest payroll at his disposal to get what he needed as well as combined with all the winning and the rings he just lost his edge and desire. combine that with dealing with the boss and he had enough, i think if he did not have the desire to shove it back in georges face by going to another team and winning, he would have probably walked away. but for whatever reason this team is back on track and i think it has to do with many reasons in combination like coach, pitching, better bats and lastly, the depth of the bench. this team just has a lot more personel that can step in and get it done. |

Gee, I wonder if "that something special" is the huge payroll. Its amazing that can come out on top of the Twins. This team has sooo much heart. Is CC a "true yankee" yet??

Boy jetsmets, life most be so boring for you these days. I guess you can’t find the other 7 Mut Fans on the Mut board, so you had to come over and hang with us big guys. That’s ok, the more you stay on the Yankee Board, the more you will learn about sports and baseball. BTW, I think your payroll is one of the teams in the top 5 in the league. The only difference is we create winners, you create losers. But what do you expect from a team that use to play in a Purple Stadium at Shea. I heard they had a 2 for one sale in the paint dept. at Home Depot when they painted Shea. Hey did you sit in the Pepsi Picnic Area in your new ball park? I hear with every Pepsi you get a free Cotton Candy, any color you want. No thanks, I rather sit in the Bleachers with the big boys and have a Brew and Dog with the Real Fans in New York Baseball. Enjoy your 2 Rat Eaten Flags. You see you and your chance in 2000, but you couldn’t get passé 5 games. Bottom line, you didn’t even belong on the same field as the Yankees. |

So what are You saying Tony ?
The Yankeees are better than the Mets ? Really ? Question Do You know how foolish You look comparing the Yankees to the Mets or any other team for that matter ? Let me educate You on your team . TheYankees are the most succesful team in ALL of sports let alone Baseball . There are the Yankees in a league by themselves and then there is everyone else in every other league. Instead of comparing the Yankees to the Mets or any other team why not compare the Yankees to the only team with who you can realistically compare them with that being other Yankee teams ? Here let me help You some more.. I'll start .. Question How do you think this yankees team compares with the 2000 team who won it all ? |

I thing the Yankees of this year are better the the Mets this year, and I think the Yankees of 2000 are better then the Mets of 2000 and I think what you think Brian, The Yankees are the Greatest
Now let me ask you a question Brian, would you rather sit in the Pepsi Picnic Area having Cotton Candy, while looking at 2 Flags, or would you rather sit in the Bleaches with the Big Guys having a Brew and A Dog while looking at 26 Flags. And the Brew and Dog will be on me. |

Funny You should ask.
As I read Your post above I am seeing a TV comercial telling Me that "more flags are more fun" and the pitchman was only speaking of Six flags let alone TWENTYsix. If You're serious about the Brew and the Dog which at the going rate will likely run You about Twelve Dollars count Me in. |

Brian you can count on it. So if we are both hanging out on the boards next season, and we can meet at a game. The Brew and Dog is on me. What's a few bucks between enemys in Baseball. But it has to be at the big house in the Bronx, and would be great to see a game between the Yanks and Mets. |

"Yankees have something this year, that has been missing for some time"
Yea, they have all the best players. The big bad Yankees have to feel proud of themselves beating up on a team with less that half their payroll. The ump might have cost the Twins the game by blowing that foul ball call that Melky couldn't catch up with. |
