I don't know how many avid golfers are on the board, but this has a little bit to do with all sports. This afternoon before the final round of the US Open kicked off, they threw out a very interesting fact about Tiger:

He has never won a major tournament that he didn't already lead going into the final round.

Right now he's about 3 strokes out of the lead with a few holes to play, so this could all change, but I think thats a pretty astounding piece of info. For a guy who some feel is the greastest golfer in history, to say that he's never stepped up his game on the final day is quite amazing. Certinaly maintaining a lead in the final round isn't a walk in the park, and he's been challenged in the past. But I've always thought that the greatest moments in sports occur when teams overcome adversity. For example, I was never a fan of basketball, but I was intrigued when the Cavs overcame being down 2-0 in the semis this year, and then I quickly lost interest when the Spurs swept them in the finals. Whether is the yankees and sox in 04, or the rangers and devils in 94, those are the stories that stick out in peoples minds.

Maybe its just that golf is structured differently, but I feel like for tiger woods, especially of late, he either comes in firing and pulls so far ahead that theres no competition by Sunday, or he bows out early and you don't hear about him. Personally, I was amazed that the "Greatest Golfer" can't pull out his A+ game to overcome some adversity in the final round of a tournament.

Yes I agree it is amazing.I thought Nicklas' 86 Masters is what you are refering to,that was a come from behind for all ages, that's why I consider him the greater golfer.Woods will collect more trophy's,unless of course injury steps in,but most guys that play with him on Sunday in the final pairing just collapse.

Choking in golf is what people do,although the pro's don't like to call it that, that is what it is.Such a mental game.

I carry a 14 handicap at age 62,because of the putter I would be lower.

The more I think about it,Woods doesn't have the competition that Nicklaus had.Trevino,Watson,Floyd,Hubert Green never backed down on the back nine on sunday.Woods doesn't have that today.

If Bobby Jones was 28 today he would beat Woods from time to time, some of those guys were genius around the greens in U.S.Opens,which aren't Woods friend by any means.
