For those of you like me that had the pleasure of seeing him play will remember what a Force he was. One of the Toughest players ever in the NHL that also could play the game. For those of you who never saw him play, you missed something.

Honestly, I never liked Ferguson and I never had a whole lot of respect for him. Yes, he was very tough but he was also one of the most notorious goons ever to play the game. He wouldn't just fight people, he would try to hurt them. And let's not forget what a joke he was as a coach and GM of the Rangers, not to mention those god-awful uniforms he came up with. I'm sorry the guy is dead, but that doesn't change my feelings about him.

My dad told me he once challenged Bobby Hull to a fight while Hull had a broken jaw wired shut and was playing with a helmet and full face shield.

i think there is too much negativity here , i for one did not know him or his career but i still know you should show respect to a preson who just passed on.

Yeah - I suppose you're right. I posted that more wondering if that was actually true than anything. But it was disrespectful. My full apologies. |

Sorry but I totally disagree with you about Fergy being a goon. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sure I hated him when he came to the Garden because he was one tough S O B, and as a Ranger Fan you never wanted to see anyone do a number on one of your players. But I envied the Canadians for having some one like him. John Furgerson was no Goon, he was an enforcer for his team and he protected the stars on his team. He also was a dam good hockey player. In his days, everyone wanted to have a John Furgerson on their team. The type of player the Rangers could use right this very minute. Something this team is missing. He didn't hurt his team by taking stupid penalties, but if he had to drop the gloves, he was right there. And 99% of the time he came out on top. Would you consider Tie Domi a Goon? Would you consider guys like Chris Simon a Goon. Would you consider Wayne Cashman a Goon, or even our own Slats Sather, a goon. Would you consider Leaping Lou Fontonano of the Rangers a goon, these were hard nose players in those days, not goons, that played on the Flyers. |

Yeah but it's hard for me to accept anybody hitting someone in the face like that with a hockey stick. Even if somebody from the rangers did it....And Simon never even apologized to Hollweg. |

Simon Went Brain Dead for one second, I think you all know I will never defend a FishStick, but that was and never has been, Simons game. But then again, he never played for the FishSticks before. When you become a FishStick you loose all your classs. But I don't consider Simon a Goon! |
