Amen to that!!!
Orpik's not all that big but man he's been hitting HARD, even during these Olympic games.
(We need someone like him on the Rangers.)
We should of had him !!! not someone like him....
He chose to re-sign with the Penguins. It's not like Slats lost a bidding war.
He wanted to stay in Pittsburgh, as far as I know.
Well, here comes another "more reason's to dislike Sather post" from me......
PG...Yea he did. Orpik, along with Fedotenko sacraficed making more $ with another team so they could stay with the Pens. Those are the types of guys you want on your team (obviously).
But Underachiever is certainly on the right track. I was praying (at the time) Sather would have signed Kurt Sauer over Rozsival and Mike Commodore over Redden.
Of course, both would not have provided much offense (and besides,Rozsival/Redden aren't exactly racking up the points) but Kurt S. and Mike C. would have filled an EXTREMELY SIGNIFICANT role on the Rangers blue line (imo). Not to mention, their contracts wouldn't have taken up all of that cap space.
Both defense men stand at around 6.04 to 6.05 and weigh over 225 pounds.
In a division like the Atlantic, the Rangers could have used two big rugged "D Men" who hit hard, play with an edge, and aren't shy when it comes to dropping the gloves.
I would have paired one with Staal and one with Del Zotto. And I don't mean to continue bashing Girardi (I think his overall game, which includes being more physical around the crease has improved)but when he didn't step in for Gaborik, I know Commodore or Sauer would not have contemplated whether or not to take the "3rd Man In" penalty. No question, either guy would have stepped in and fought Carcillo.
Losing the game is one thing. The possibility of losing Gaborik to a severe concussion is another. We all know, without the face shield that could have easily turned into a "Todd Fedoruk" incident.
I'm not saying they are as effective. But who here remembers how important Jeff Beukeboom (especially)and Jay Wells were to that Stanley Cup team? And again. They're certainly not as effective a pair as Leetch and Zubov (yet), but Del Zotto and Gilroy give the team enough offensive hope from the blue line.Sather....please retire?
