It's going to be tough for Shanny. There is allot of good players competing for a spot in camp this year (Petr Prucha, Patrick Rissmiller, Fred Sjostrom, Lauri Korpikoski, Andreas Jamtin, Hugh Jessiman, P.A. Parenteau, and Petr Nedved) Well I know you guys don't like Nedved but he will be a player that will have to be reckoned with. This is his last chance and he is very determined to make this team. Personally I think Shanny will make this team. I like his response..."I appreciate compliments about my role as a leader or mentor, but I'm not playing in the NHL this year to be a, 'Good locker room guy,' " said Shanahan, who was third on the team last year with 23 goals. "I'm coming to play hard on both sides of the puck, to attack and defend, and to help my team win games. Hopefully things work out for him
That is indeed 1 good quote , but this was imo puts it over the top.
I’m pretty good at having perspective. If I reacted like a lot of people told me on July 3 or July 15 or August 1, I would have moved on a long time ago. But I do have perspective. I think I see things pretty clearly. These guys both veteran and young are guys that I care about and want to help in all facets of their career so when I see guys like Dubinsky or Callahan or Girardi or Staal, I see them as my teammates, I don’t think I’ve spent a day this summer where I didn’t feel that way.”
Go home Shanny!!! Awful job by Ranger management, it's obvious that they really don't want him back, yet here he is. He gets TOO much respect, that's why he's in camp, not because they want him to be. Same reason he played hurt(at least that's his EXCUSE)last season and wasn't taken out of the lineup. Coaches and GMs make these decisions, not players! We went through this watching a way over the hill Messier hop over the boards on every PP opportunity.
If by crazy you mean dead-on, yes. Did we gouge the team four years ago, trading for prospects and draft picks, in order to watch 39 year olds play on the third line?

I totally agree. First of all, immediately following the Rangers' playoff ouster by the Penguins last spring, Tom Renney stated that he want's a high-tempo, puck-pressuring team this year. That criteria ALONE is enough for the Rangers to say goodbye to Shanny. He no longer has the legs for that type of game, so what the heck is he doing back in training camp??? My concern is that if Shanny inexplicably ends up back on the team, we're going to have a 39yr old slow-footed player taking a roster spot from a fleet-footed youngster. The bottom line is that Shanahan will hinder the Rangers a lot more than he will help. It's insane that we're even considering having him back.
Calling Sundin over the hill is unfair when he has averaged over a point a game for each of the 3 seasons since the lockout. Saying he would only come to NY for the money is also probably not true because if it was only the money he wanted he would have taken Vancouver's $20 million for 2 years offer. That being said, it is time to move on with the new season & either sign Shanny or let him go somewhere else. If Sundin decides during the season that he wants to play for the Rangers then he will cost less against the cap & it might be easier to make the cap cutting moves that we would need to do to sign him. If some of them were not already made for us through injuries or trades.
Alright well I agree with you on Sundin, I never wanted him either. I mean who wants a guy who doesn't even know if he wants to play another year anyway. At least Shanny knows that he wants to play and is working to prove that.
