QuestionWell it appears to be a shabby way of doing things....BUT...this is all guess work because we do not know what went on behind closed doors. All we have is a statement and conjecture who told who what ??????? I am not a Sather fan per se but we should not jump to conclusions. Will the truth come out???????? Does it really matter!!!not really .In all reality shanny did not fit in the grand scheme. After all he was basicily a rental.

That still doesn't make it right. For the few seasons that he was here, Shanahan was very productive, provided excellent veteran leadership on and off the ice, he always put the team first, and is an all-around good guy. Considering all of that, the least that Sather could have done was to give Shanny a definitive answer one way or the other before the season started. Like I said before, I didn't want Shanny back because we needed to get a younger and faster player in his place. But I don't like the way it was handled by Sather.

Agreed, Double R. I couldn't have said it better myself.

one last time
Shanahan Tribute

i hope the guy gets a standing Ovation when he plays at the garden.

He wasin't a legend here or a Mark Messier but he helped turn this team around and provided leadership and on top of all that he was dedicated to this team AND THIS TEAM ONLY! despite how sather basically put a knife in his back ,if im at that game you better be damn sure im clapping once he's on the ice.

I didn't want him back, but I still think we did him dirty.

There's something about players that really want to play for your team and no other team. As a fan you have to love that. Especially when most players are only interested in wherever they can make the most money, or in some cases, wherever you feel you have the best chance to win a cup.

When a player wants to play for your team and your team only, it's almost as if they are a fan themselves.

This looks bad on the organization. All Sather ever had to do was come out and say that we were moving in a different direction. This rings of a lack of respect for dedicated players- ala the handling of Leetch.

I like the direction Sather has taken the club overall- but I disapprove of the way he has handled this.

I will say it again Sather never [or rarely] discusses his moves or reasons .What we know has come from reporters and we ALL know that all they do is tell the truth !!!!!!

I just wonder if Sather had come out and say it to the reporters that the Rangers are not going to sign Shanny, what would people say about that?
I thought if the team has only 250,000 left in cap space, Shanny knows the team cannot sign him and if he insists on waiting so that players can get traded to accommodate him, who's fault is that?

I don't particularly like that about Sather.
The fans pay the salaries, including his - and I think it wouldn't hurt anyone to just be a bit more forthright and less cryptic.
Yes, it's business....but without us, there IS no business.

"Nashville Predators Sign Brendan Shanahan to 1yr Deal , Than send him to New York Rangers as "their "future consideration" toward Hugh Jessiman.

Ok that didn't really happen but wouldn't it be a riot? Juggle

I'm assuming that if nashville signs him and gives him to us for considerations that NASHVILLE will have to pay for the cap hit and not the rangers.

Wade, I know you're joking, but Shanny is way better than Hugh Specimen.
I bet he'll go to the Devils and will come back and haunt us.

Yes i was joking ,but if it came true i wouldn't be disappointed!

Here's an intresting thought, Jagr came to us from washington BUT the deal was that washginton still pays half his salary so we got HALF the cap hit ,that being said Sather is a evil genius when it comes to deal breakers and he could try to pull something like this here.

"Hugh jessiman traded to nashville in exchange for the signing of brendan shanahan in nashville,in addition to that the predators signed him to a (insert money here) deal and they will be taking half ( or possibly more? ) the paycut for the veteran's 1yr deal."

Just a thought.

From The Fourth Period:
(Reliable? I don't know)

The Predators were interested in signing FA Brendan Shanahan until his agent told the team the veteran star isn't interested, reports the Nashville Tennessean.

Predators GM David Poile spoke with agent Rick Curran this past week but was told his team isn't on Shanahan's list.

"We're not one of his teams of choice," Poile said. "He has other teams he'd like to explore first."

It's believed Shanahan has interest in joining the likes of the Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils or Boston Bruins.

*****************************************************************************

The Ottawa Sun reports the Colorado Avalanche are one of the teams that can afford to add Shanahan to their roster.

From the Editor: Shanahan's agent, Rick Curran, has received a number of calls about his client, and we could hear some news about a possible destination later in the week. Shanahan wants to find a new home quickly.
So far, the St. Louis Blues are the only club to publicly acknowledge that they're interested in him. -- David Pagnotta
