Defenceman Teppo Numminen's comeback from heart surgery took another step Friday with news the Buffalo Sabres have re-signed the veteran Finn.

He agreed to a one-year contract for $1.1-million US.

Numminen, 40, had surgery in September of 2007 to repair a faulty valve discovered during a routine checkup for his 19th NHL season and third with Buffalo.

Defenseman Vitali Vishnevski has joined the flock of players winging east to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Vishnevski, 28, signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Russian league this week after clearing NHL waivers. The New Jersey Devils put him on waivers Friday, and the other 29 teams passed on signing him.
------------------------------------------------

He has always played very well and very hard against the Rangers. This is GOOD NEWS!

What the....How the heck do they keep making all of these moves, and TSN is reporting they are going to sign him to a 6 year $24 million contract. What the heck is their cap like? I hope they flop like the Pens did the year they stocked up on free agents.

Extremely cheap considering he is a number 1 defenseman and a horse and still has room to grow.

Say what you will, guys - but I think Barry Melrose will be a better coach than Tom Renney this year.

I think he will stick by his words and hold his players accountable and that will take his team further than Renney's BS.

With that said, I like the players on this team and I really hope they find their chemistry sooner than later.
I'm optimistic and hopeful for what this roster can do on the ice.
I'm still down on Renney being the coach to take them deep into the NHL Playoffs.

What will actually happen this season?

That will be a complete mystery with Renney and his failed PP specialists behind the bench.

(As good as this roster will be, the guy coaching them is the same guy who consistently OVERPLAYED an old and injured Shanahan!)

I think that with Jagr gone now the PP will be much smoother as they will not only look to one person to always take the shot, maybe they will actually move the puck and shoot!

Seriously, that's what scares me.
How can he be hired back?
Their PP has absolutely s.u.c.k.e.d!
Unless they've decided to re-systemize their PP philosphy, Perry Pearn should not be running it.
NO WAY!
