This is an awful signing. Espn says its a five year @ 7.5 mil a year.

Marian gaborik does not know how to stay healthy. I am praying there is some clause if that he doesn't reach past 75 games each season, we don't have to pay him, but i feel like that won't happen. Check this out, his career's games played each year. This is absolutely atrocious. I really cannot believe anyone is remotely happy.

starting from 2000-01: 71, 78, 81, 65, 65,...

2006-07: 48
2007-08: 77
2008-09: 17 games played.

nuff said.

#1 He had surgery to correct the problem that was causing his chronic hip issues which is why he only played 17 games last season

#2 if he is injured and goes on LTI then his Cap hit comes off our books

So basically if he works out he is the top line player we lost when we failed to re-sign Jagr

He had surgery a couple years ago to correct the problem also, didn't work. He was always complaining about the ice in Minnesota, what do you think he'll say about the garden ice?
This is a high risk move, the kind of move that almost ALWAYS backfires on the Rangers,
If healthy, if healthy, if healthy... Head Bang

According to TSN he has surgery on the other hip this past season and now the issues with the groin problems have gone away since he did that ... the original surgery, according to them, didn't fix the groin issues and this one supposedly did

That's great! There's really no downside to this signing then.

what is considered as LTI though? (I'm assuming LTI is long term injury?) is that like them putting him on IR is good enough to not have to pay him? I still feel like this is an bad trade.

Daniel Briere went on LTI last season because he was going to miss more than 14 days or something to that effect ... I cannot recall what the exact # of days are ... because I know that the Flyers had an issue of cap space when he got healthy and they wanted to bring him back to the team

To make it short , your injured player put on IR dosen't count against the cap,its like sending them to hartford without going through waivers.

Ok, but still, it's still like that whole elephant in the room metaphor. We would still have THAT big salary of Gaborik's waiting to come back from IR, so we really would not be able to sign some other big name to substitute in his place if he gets injured. I don't know, I still see this as a poor acquisition. It's as though you'd hope if he does get injured, he get injured for the entire season so you can use his cap on someone for good. (god that sounds terrible b/c it is LOL)

yea but if we rely on him to be our primary goal scorer, and he gets hurt, no matter how much money comes off, the team still suffers. If we had gotten Heatley, he would be playing everyday, scoring everyday.

I'm replying to myself, but I think we should still try to sell Zherdev, I'm not sold on him

He's like a compulsive spender, as soon as he gets money he has to buy something.

Very unhappy...

I couldn't agree more. He has Gomez's contract, actually a few dollars more, to play 20 games a season if lucky. And people were worried about Gomez and his lack of production for his salary. HAHAHAHA! Yeah smart move. I think Gaborik is a good player, but he is too injury prone for the amount of money we gave him. BIG mistake trading Gomez!! SATHER IS A MORON!!!!!
