I'm not condoning the salary, but would like to bring up some points in Chris's defense. First off, all of the players listed by Paulzy do not go up against the tops forwards on the other team. Now that thats out of the way, second off Drury deserves from past seasons in the NHL a high salary. Not the figure he is currently making, but somewhere around 5 mil. is about right. As someone pointed out earlier, the problem is his high salary, not Chris the hockey player. And for the remark about always seeing Chris's jersey when the opposition scores is off base. You usually see Chris trying to cover for someone who missed their coverage and thats why to see the name on the jersey. One thing you'll never find is Chris floating back like gabby did the other night. Chris always gives the effort and thats why I have his back most of the time.

One last comment regarding Gabby. What I'm real surprised at is that he played for LeMaire of the Wild. He should know better and deserved the 8 minutes on the bench in the second period.

Yes, he should know better.
But now is not the time to minimize ice-time for the Rangers' leading scorer. It's either WIN or get out the tennis rackets and golf clubs.
Scream at him on the bench if needed, but he's the ONLY guy with the offensive punch. Reducing his minutes, no matter how justified, is just plain dumb.
JMHO.

You know PG although part of me wants to agree with you but the other part says that Torts is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t. 99% of Ranger Fans including myself have been screaming for years, we need a head coach that makes his players accountable. Now we get one and we still are not happy. We can’t have it both ways PG. Now, you know how much I respect you as a Ranger Fan and as a person PG, but I am respectfully disagreeing with you on this.

You have no creditability as a head coach if you give your super stars special privileges and make examples of other players that are being benched for the same reason. You can’t give Gaborik a free ride just because he is your top scorer. How can you preach to your players that you will make them accountable for their performance on the ice but the rules do not apply to all. Gaborik has made some bone head defensive plays more then once, and I am sure he has been talked to by the coaching staff before he was benched. How can you not make Gaborik accountable for his actions on ice when you only recently did the same thing to Avery and others.

I understand where you are coming from PG when you talk about the importance of the game and the fight to get in the playoffs, but you know what PG the rules are set for all games, not certain times and certain games. So I am all for Torts decision to bench Gaborik. He is a man of his word. And sometimes you can use tough love on the ice to make your point. This is what Torts preached from day one, and you have to give him credit for not making any exceptions to his rules. What’s good for one is good for all. And as I have said many times, lets go back to the great Herb Brooks, who said, “It’s the name on the front of the Jersey that counts, not the name on the back”

And one other thing. Gabby probably missed a grand total of 3 shifts. Sometimes sitting a guy can have a positive effect on the player. Torts was surely hoping Gabby would fuel the part time benching into getting on the scoresheet. Too bad for the team and Torts that it didn't work. Not surprising that it didn't with the way he has been playing lately.

You didn't respond to my post, Tony. Still thinking something up??

NYR16-He didn't score 37 goals in a checking role, and if you look at his CAREER stats you'll see he's a 20 goal, 50-60 point a year guy at best....but those intangibles he brought to Stanley Cup teams and contenders must be worth that extra $4M-$5M to a borderline playoff team. BTW-HE HAD ONE OF THE WORST +/- RECORDS ON THE TEAM. That includes defenseman and guys that barely scored.

C'mon, Tony Geezer Boxing

Tony G Whistle...come out, come out, wherever you are. 37 goals on a first place team, -1. He didn't score 37 in a checking role, he scored 37 because he was surrounded by offensive weapons.

BTW- he scored 30 the season before with the Sabres and was -11!

So he's obviously not that great defensively, can't put a puck into the ocean from a pier without a superstar(s) setting him up, so what are those intangibles?

This year he averages roughly two shots on goal a game, is about 50% on face offs, and is "up" to a -13.

BTW-"Mr. Clutch" had 1 goal and was a -5 in 6 playoff games last year.

Come on Tony, I'm waiting days now for you to make up some BS to dispute the FACTS presented. And try not to use your standard "you know nothing about hockey" line. Jester Jester

Hey Paulzzy, how are you. I am so sorry if I hurt your feelings. Gee that’s the last thing I would do to you Paulzzy. Bow I would never ignore your post. Now if you were KC that would be a different story. Now you are really not KC are you. Confused Now I said what I said about Drury and Gomez and I will still say I would love to have either one on my team. I still stand by what I said as to what they add to a team, and it seems many players and people in the NHL including many GM’s feel the same way. But as I said in the game day Thread Paulzzy, I don’t have time for this BS. I am focusing on the Rangers game tonight against Florida and rooting on my team to make the playoffs. So you and KC can go to your Negative Meetings and discuss your next post of Negatives. Blah Blah Blah

Like I said Paulzzy, I am sorry if I hurt you feelings, I am sure you want to hang out with Big TonyG. But I think you and KC should just go home and get your Fecken Shine Boxes, because you both don’t know shet from shine-ola. But your still one of my favorite guys Paulzzy. Say hello to KC at your next meeting of the minds. Oooops I mean meeting of the mind. Nyah

plus minus is a tainted stat especially considering he plays on the pk a ton as well as his role is slightly different from the buffalo days.
i agree with the disapointment over drury, but in fairness to him it has a lot to do with we were sold on hime putting up high numbers when in fact that was one of his best seasons and what we see him do is now his game.

my opinion has changed slightly on him because he does what he is expected to do as per his role and the biggest gripe is he is grossly overpaid to do so.
if he was at 2.5 to 3 million per it would still be a little high but he would be more worth it and he probably would not be included in this conversation.

So in other words, you totally ran like a little girl from the facts (GM's like Glen Sather...who paid $8M for a penalty killer. Notice Buffalo didn't miss a beat without him).
You didn't answer one question, and used you're baloney because you don't have a new BS answer, just the old "you guys don't know anything" response.

Typical response of an idiot, like a typical liar, always questioning others' integrity.

You should check the "general" board where his usual response begins with " New York Times reading bleeding heart liberals" whenever he disagrees with someone.
Not much "there" there.
