Last year around this time I started a "Tavares Watch" thread and for better or worse we won out and got him. Now a year later we're still in the market for top of the line young prospect and we find ourselves in FOURTH from the bottom in the "race for disgrace", a race I would love to win.

As our ol Butch Goring intimated the other night, it may behoove our favorites to finish near the bottom and secure a top five pick. Butchie mentioned the "success" of Washington, Pittsburgh, and Chicago as examples we may be able to follow.

So what doya say. Lets start counting the days, hoping that our boys will tank the rest of the season and hopefully Garth will sell off whatever he can to garner an addtional pick or two so we can further establish a strong foundation out of young studs.

Let's build this thing to last, heaven knows we've taken our lumps along the way.

Let's Go Whoever's Playing the Islanders!!!!

If tanking is a result of Tavares,Moulson,Neilson,Okposo,Bailey,Schremp and any other youngsters with a semblence of talent coming up empty,I wouldn't like to see it happen. There comes a point where a supposed rebuild must begin to bear some fruit. As far as I am concerned that time is now. If it isn't,I am not so sure Snow will command confidence any longer and warrant being the individual to attempt to impact the future.

Lucky, of all the names you mentioned ONLY Tavares was a top five pick. Okposo was an eighth overall, and he's kind of playing like that. Bailey was a consensus overreach (scouts had him in the 13-15 range. Schremp was a waiver pick. Moulson a FA pick up. Nielsen was a great pick for the round he was taken, third.

We need to be horrible for about two or three years. I figure two more should just about do it. No need to take short cuts. I'd sign up to be like Washington or Pittsburgh or Chicago (Chicago being most realistic since the first two got generational type players in their draft and you have to be fortunate to have them available).

Remember this and it is important. Wang WILL NOT spend with the big boys so forget the Kovalchuk signings. The prospect of signing guys like him will only give you agida. He's going the Oakland A's route. If youth serves him well and the people start coming back THEN you may see the loosening of the purse strings. Until then enjoy the kids. It will mean so much more when they bloom.
