Monday,Dec 7th is a day that will always live in imfamy. On a less serious note in the natural order of things,it is D Day for the Isles also! Tomorrow is Deadline Day for filing all interested developers bids for the right to put a shovel into the Willets Point Soil. Will Charles LDC Project be amongst them? Some light should be shed on what direction Charles is headed as soon as the list is disclosed.

Nassau? Still a holding pattern...
Suffolk? Long time, no word... Queens? I hope so, but no word lately... Kings? Here's the latest from Newsday: ***************************************** Developer Bruce Ratner has just released a report affirming his keen interest in attracting the New York Islanders to his planned Brooklyn Arena in the borough's downtown area. Ratner's report, prepared by Convention, Sports, Leisure International of Plano, Texas to help sell bonds to build the arena, comes a week after Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, one of the most prominent backers of the Lighthouse Project, lost his re-election bid to Republican Ed Mangano. The Lighthouse was to include a renovated Nassau Coliseum. During the campaign, Mangano was lukewarm about the Lighthouse Project. Additionally, Lighthouse developers Charles Wang and Scott Rechler have been unhappy with what they see as the slow pace of the approval process for the Lighthouse. "The New York Islanders could potentially become a tenant of the proposed area . . . moving from their current home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum," the report states. The area, the report says, is currently designed to house the New Jersey Nets basketball team. The report was part of a market analysis to help Goldman Sachs sell $500 million worth of bonds to investors to build the arena. The analysis said Brooklyn was "a healthy place" to build a sports arena. "If built as planned, the arena would need to be retrofitted to accommodate the ice-making abilities the [National Hockey League] requires for its franchises," the report says. Wang has threatened to move the Islanders, possibly to Kansas City, if the project is not approved. John Meindl, president of Sportsbrandmedia Inc., a sports marketing company in Rockville Centre, said Ratner "sees a window of opportunity" following Suozzi's loss. On his [Ratner's] part it's a brilliant move." But, Meindl said, the Islanders - a woeful team for years now - might have difficulty attracting fans to downtown Brooklyn from Long Island. ********************************************* As I said before, any LI county would be great. |

Noonish....12/10
Just turned on NHL Live on the NHL Network and Deb Placey just confirmed the Ratner story. She said that he's wooing Charles Wang and wants the Islanders to be part of the new arena plans with the Nets. She also said that Nassau and Queens are still in the mix. I'm just happy she didn't mention Kansas City or Hamilton. Keep the faith...... |

I assume this was a story originated in Newsday,NYI72. As usual, they are guilty of irresponsible and inaccurate reporting regarding any express threat Charles made to move the team to Kansas City. Sure they scheduled and played a preseason game there, but that in itself should not be construed as any direct or even indirect threat. I am sure Charles' accounting team are going to crunch some numbers after an official offer is made by Ratner. If there is profitability there,it will be a perfect marriage. This nonsense about losing a LI fan base is meaningless. Did Meindl ever consider the fact that for the last 37 years a multitude of fans from Brooklyn and Queens got into their cars drove it on the Van Wyck and or Southern State and parked it in the Coliseum lot regularly? If I still lived in the metro area,I probably still would. Meindl's mindset is precisely what has been wrong with the marketing tactics of this franchise from day one. There has always been a considerable fan base in the outer boroughs that never was targeted. Although I have no doubt there are and will remain many LI diehards who would hop on the LIRR and get off on Atlantic and Flatbush Ave's,their absence wouldn't be any straw breaking the camels back. Aside from the many Brooklynites and Queens natives, not to mention Staten Islanders, who are already Islanders fans, build a better mouse trap and many other resources(New hockey fans) in the boroughs will be tapped. |

Thats a solid move-Either Brooklyn or queens at this point, cuz you can forget nassau co,this is a major move for this team and it's franchise.
Nassau County appears doesnt want anything to do with the Isles and this huge Money project. So,if it's possible relocate where it would attract alot of fans,Queens or Brookyln would be a decent thing for the Isles. This is a good team but Injuries hurt this team right now,but I think this team will be ok.But Please do not move this team if possible, but you can forget Nassau county, they are taxed up the bleep. As long as they stay on the Island or close to the city and still compete with the Rangers fans.......If the Jets and giants get the fans and a new stadium, why not the Rangers and Isles. Even if the Rangers have more fans,it would be great for hockey and the NYC area,2 great Nhl teams.Let's go Islanders!!!!!!! |

NYCity's EDC has reported 29 groups located around the nation have placed bids for the development of Willets Point. We may not know anything until either Charles Wang extends the courtesy to his diehard fans or they are disclosed, whenever that should occur. The least the man can do is shed just a little light on the state of affairs without disturbing any potential ongoing negotiations. Are we knocking ourselves out rooting for a lame duck Metro Area team? How about it Charles Wang???? Open the door just abit!!
