Just when we thought this guy had found his calling as an astute and articulate Hockey analyst,he failed once again. What the heck was he telling his audience and think he was contributing, other than self servingly spewing his meanspirited hate for the European hockey player? They brought their "Eurotrash" to the rink??? Milbury is a classic case of a moron coming home to roost!! Sheesh

Someone on the Ranger board alluded to the Semin hit as the preamble to the remark. I thought it was all about the way the Russians left their A (or B or C) game at home.

Either way Milbury has lots to learn about how to come across intelligent with his audience. Someone else intimated that he's trying to hard to be Don Cherry. Don't know about that but it does sound like a possibility.

On a side note I couldn't help but rail against BOTH Milbury and one of his sidekick's analysis of the German/Canada game. They were both almost besides themselves when questioning the German gameplan. To me, it was ALMOST the only thing the Germans could have done when playing an opponent the caliber of Canada. I say ALMOST because I believe that Germany could have changed up for about a four/five minute period to start the second. They could have gone with an agressive forecheck system for that period of time to try and catch the Canadians off balance. I think it may have worked. It's an interesting strategy. People don't realize it but when you slow the game done you're in control (see NBA playoffs). When you OCCASIONALLY step it up like I suggest you're playing the game like a Maddux type pitching exhibition, keeping the opposition off balance.

Passive resistence works well when you throw in the occasional frenetic agression. It's a dangerous component that all too many times underdogs don't realize they have at their disposal.

Damn, I miss coaching!!

Wasn't our old friend Ewe Krupp behind Germany's bench? I believe Milbury's comments were directed at him. What you have described,Red, in a winning formula,is poise and 'patience'!! Slow the game down,SEE the Court and Ice and seize the moment when it comes! That is what wins in either sport! The great basketball teams play a 'controlled' running game with concentration and primary dependence on ball movement in a half court offense creating an open look. The great hockey teams rarely have their D men pinch. They dump and chase, forecheck and either score or create a power play or pounce on turnovers in the neutral zone. Only when the opposition carelessly pinches do they fly down ice taking advantage of an odd man rush when it presents itself.

As Quoted:
"If this team doesn't make the playoffs next year, then it's off with my head or others close to the Team" Or i can add more to the 1999 season,Im sure others can add more-Isles fans.

"Dark clouds hover over Long Island as Rick Bonus is put on Alert statise By Gm Mike Milbury" as quoted by Wfan radio nyc.
During the Islanders current skid of 9 straight losses 1998 season I think? Big Laugh
