I was Googling around with the name "Long Island Ducks hockey attendance" and up popped a site, sportsillustrated.cnn.com with an offering of a SI vault article from March 31, 1969 entitled "If You Like Hockey, Basketball, and Fierce Fighting Fans". Its a great little take of pro Sports of Long Island in the 60s. It went on to say that BOTH Nets and Ducks were slated to play "in Hempstead" in 1970.

Its articles like this that reassure me there is no home for the Islanders other than Long Island. There was REAL pro hockey history on out here in "the sticks", with real loyal fans. There was no hockey in Brooklyn......

but thanks goodness baseball's back there where it belongs.
