“…Speaking yesterday in suburban Vancouver, where he presided over the opening of the Steve Nash Sports Club, his second athletic complex in B.C.’s Lower Mainland, Nash said his agent, Bill Duffy, is scheduled to meet with Suns general manager Steve Kerr next week. Nash also suggested a deal could be announced in the near future.
But the Victoria, B.C. native, who is heading into the final year of a contract that will pay him $13.1 million U.S. in 2009-10, acknowledged that if the sides can’t reach a consensus, “than a trade would always be a possibility.” And if that’s the case, the point guard said he would like to play in New York, where his family spends its summers.
“I would preface it by saying that I love Phoenix and that’s what I’m focusing on right now,” Nash said. “But I live in New York City, and I love it there, and [Knicks head coach] Mike D’Antoni was one of my favourite coaches. If it didn’t work out in Phoenix, obviously that would be a place I’d consider…”

Forget Kidd! Nash is who I want running this team. He's 35 but I think he has 3 years left. I wonder what type of contract he would demand.

i agree with you w & r. even though his skills have diminished, he still can run the offense. even for two years we can definitely benefit from him on our team. he can still get his 15 pts, 10 assists per game. as long as his demands are not crazy, we should look into obtaining him.

I'd take a 35yr old Nash if it dont mean that
NY Jeopardizes their signing one major nba star
in 2010/11

Nash + that star would work for several yrs and
he can teach the younger PGs Knicks would have
coming in.

NY isnt going to get talent easy and Nash wont
get a long term contract

How about neither player.

I don't buy this whole mentoring argument. The best way for a young player to get better is to go out and actually play. It's a moot point anyway, because we don't even have a young point guard.

Who mentored Chris Paul by the way?

I could see why you think Kidd is way past his prime but why Nash? He's still putting up great stats. 16 and 10 last year. Nash is a great athlete. I think he has 3 years left.

just what the knicks need another player who better days are behind him,i thought donnie walsh was looking to the future not the past,by trying to lure kidd or nash to the knicks,it seems that donnie waslh is making the same mistake as isiah thomas

I'll tell you why....because just like the Ranger and other NY teams....these "saviors" get here and wheels come off the wagon. I'm an adamantly opposed to getting star players on their way down, because there is no way to predict when the wheels will come off the wagon. If you could guarantee that Nash will play at this current lvl...that's fine but I don't feel comfortable with that.

I'm OK with bringing a guy like that to be a role player or mentor at a good price but to build around or starter? NO! Haven't wee been through enough of this?

Nash is not over the hill or as close to it as Kidd is. Nash can still play at a high tempo and run the floor. He still puts up good numbers with 16PPG and 10 APG. I'd bring him in and make Duhon the back up PG

No freaking way is this a good idea.

Nash would be good for a one year or two year time frame on a CONTENDING team. Think Shaq on Cleveland....that kind of thing.

It doesn't make any sense to add Steve Nash....he might be able to get this team to the 8th seed in the weak East, but then what? Are they a championship contender with Nash? Not at all...they will barely be a playoff contender. And then what happens in 2 years when the wheels really fall off the wagon? You find yourself without a point guard and in the same exact situation. Instead, the Knicks should try to find a young point guard and develop him, so that in 2 or 3 years when they are ready to conted, that young PG will be ready to contribute to a team that actually has a shot to win something.

I don't think any of you who want Nash or Kidd have made a good point as to why you think he'll be a good addition. He isn't a long term solution, and this team doesn't need any more "quick fixes". Quick fixes are what got us into this mess in the first place.

If you really want Nash on this team, why not wait till his contract expires in 2010? Why would you give up anything in trade to acquire him...it doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Nash is an All-Star PG and he can teach Duhon a lot in the time he might be with us. Plus if we land a LeBron or Bosh in 2010 we'd already have a PG who would only help make both of them better. Just think of this line up if we land LeBron and Bosh

PG: Nash
SG: Hughes
SF: James
PF: Bosh
C: Milicic/Curry

That might not be the line up come 2010 but its dam good at the Point, Small Forward and Power Forward Spots Big Grin

I'm convinced...Knick fans have learned NOTHING in the last decade!

Catch them on the way down so a year or two into the contract the deal becomes an anchor around this teams neck. UGHHHH!

Hughes absolutely will not be here in 2010.

If Curry is still here in 2010, either James or Bosh won't, certainly not both and probably neither.
