The Jets have some holes that need to be filled and we can't sign free agents because we finished as a top 8 team. This is probably the only year that rule is in effect so the Jets have to find a way to improve the team without our usual crop of free agents. I would make it known that we are willing to exchange our draft picks from 2011 for more 2010 draft picks. I'm sure we would lose a bit of value on the exchange but this team HAS TO IMPROVE and they have to find a way to do it. Then next season when we are low on draft picks we go the free agent route again. I think a team out there would trade us their #2 pick this year for our #1 pick in 2011. We should be able to get an instant starter with a #2 pick - hopefully.
Also we need a punter. I don't know who the #1 punter is in this league but I would trade Kerry Rhodes for him. A great punter would help out our team immensely.
That's what we usually end up doing or we just trade up using future picks. It never catches up with us because we just do the same thing the following year and get all of the players we really want (Harris, Greene, Revis, Sanchez, Keller).
I wouldn't trade our first round pick. That's the one pick I would hold onto unless a great deal was on the table.
Shane Lechler of the Raiders is the best. I'm as angry at Rhodes as anyone but you can't trade him for a Punter. I think Weatherford did a good job and Rhodes has way too much value to just trade him for a punter. I don't even remember the last time a kicker or a punter was traded?
If I'm the Jets I keep the petal to the medal - stay agressive and get the players we need to bring us to the top. I have confidence that Mr. T and Rex Ryan know what we need. My only concearn is that get everything we need and we still can't beat the Colts. We need to get a 1 or 2 seed next season and hopefully somebody else knocks them off.

Two things are in play here. 1)There may very well be no Cap next season. 2)There may be a lockout and consequently cancellation of the 2011 season along with the draft. Under these circumstances any GM who trades for 2011 draft picks should have their heads examined.
I don't see how the no salary cap effects trading 2011 draft picks but I'm sure you have a reason - I am interested in hearing your logic. Also I don't see the NFL cancelling a season or a draft but I'm thinking for the 2011 draft there might be a salary structure in place where teams don't have to shell out hugh contracts for unproven rookies so those draft picks might be pretty valuable.

Whether or not the 2011 season and draft would be cancelled is debatable. That is exactly what happened as a result of the last NHL lockout. Regarding the lifting of Cap restrictions next season, the Jets and other teams could fill most of their needs via free agency rather than pile up current year draft picks at the expense of any in future years.
