Did you guys know that back around the time
when Sesamme Street first debuted (late 1960's )
Ernie was believed to be the Black kid Muppet ?
This because at that time most people did not as yet have color televisions so Ernie, who
is in fact colored dark Orange , appeared dark
next to his buddy the bright Yellow colored Bert who appeared to be light skinned or white
on a black and white TV screen.
As viewers became more aware after seeing the show in color Sessame Street show producers explained that they purposely colored the Muppets in variuous diferent colors to help teach and promote tolorance to the kiddies ..
and adults too .
